July 13: The weather goes nasty, and we go to Åbo
High winds and light rain, so we needed a taxiboat to get us off the island. Continued by train to Åbo.14 Åbo is Finland's oldest city and former capital, with an impressive castle and cathedral and a lot of interesting museums. Unfortunately we only had time for one evening there, during which it was dark, cold and raining. We did find time for a quick tour of Suomen Joutsen (``Swan of Finland''), a sailing ship from the turn of the century. Had to sleep in a hostel, as the nearest campsite was miles out of the city.

- ...bo.14
- Åbo in Swedish, or Turku in Finnish. About 6% of Finland's population, including my family, is Swedish-speaking, so many towns have one name in each language.
