July 12: More traditional Finnish summer life
A nice morning, so most of the island's population, including us, popped down to the local shop (a half-hour boat journey through beautiful scenery). Spent much of the day planning the rest of the trip and playing croquet.13 The weather turned nasty in the afternoon, but we still managed a pleasant evening sauna.

- The Pottören croquet pitch is like a billiard table, i.e. no grass anywhere and full of holes. It is also beset by moss, trees, pine needles, pine cones and periodic flooding. In short, it's great fun.
